Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if the user doesn’t return their powerbank?
If paying with pay-pass, the user’s card will be debited a deposit.
The deposit will be returned on the return power the powerbank to a MeCharge kiosk. The batteries themselves are only chargeable the Kiosk.
Why would people use MeCharge rather than their own powerbank?
Powerbanks are everywhere but there are a couple of problems:
- The cost of purchase – they can be expensive
- The customer must remember to carry it – they are often left behind
- The need to also keep them charged - many people carry empty powerbanks
MeCharge offers a low cost, readily available alternative that is ready when you need it.
What about just plugging into the nearest power-point?
This is certainly a viable option. But power-points aren’t always present or available. Even if available, then you are tied to the wall.
MeCharge allows the user to Charge-on-the Go, charging but still being mobile.
I’ve seen charging lockers why is this better?
Lockable charging kiosks have their place, but they separate the customer from their device. Meaning that a customer is uncontactable while their device is locked away charging.
The MeCharge powerbank will charge your device while you are using it.
Can I take a MeCharge powerbank on a plane?
Powerbanks cannot be used on commercial aircraft. Please check with your airline to find out the rules about powerbank carriage on your flight.
Is my information safe when using a MeCharge powerbank?
MeCharge has specific safeguards and natural advantages in place to ensure this cybersecurity risk is significantly minimised:
- We encourage users to report any damage or signs of tampering
- We commit to regular inspections of batteries by technicians
- Our model means that each powerbank is a discrete unit that is tracked
This means that a hacker would need to break open our powerbank or replace the cabling in order to install hardware to hack users phones. Breaking open the casing would leave obvious signs of tampering and our cables are difficult to replicate or modify.
Finally, our biggest advantage is that a single compromised battery is just that, one battery. Our entire population of batteries are not at risk, nor is our network of kiosks, meaning that should any battery be compromised, it will have limited impact.
